Just Life...

So a couple days ago we experienced our first tornado watch ever.  So stinkin scary!!  It was really windy all day long and they kept saying that there was supposed to be severe thunder storms the next couple days.  Well I didn't want to go running in the wind while pushing a jogging stroller with Alayna so I decided I was going to go on my run when Brady got home so that he could watch Alayna while I went.  When Brady got home Brady said he wanted to go running with me and that we could just take turns pushing the jogging stroller in the wind.  I agreed and we went running in the wind.  Ya, not so smart.  It was still really warm outside at the time but windy and overcast.  We only got a mile ran before we had to book it home!  The temperature dropped from warm to really cold SUPER fast!  It was like we were running and then just ran through a wall of cold.  Right after that, a guy with his dog told us we better get in because it is never good when the teperature drops like that.  So we started to head home when another person yelled to us "Did you hear about a tornado?"  I was like "What?!?!"  We were just about home by then.  We got in the house and turned on our weather radio that my parents got us and learned that we were under a tornado watch.  There were supposed to be lots of lightning, thunder, flash flooding, and hail the size of golf balls!  Like 5 to 10 minutes after we got home it started pouring!  Yep!  We spent the rest of the night watching the HUGE lightning flashes and praying that a tornado didn't hit us.  Luckily the storm didn't bring us any tornadoes but there were three tornadoes that night in Texas.  Holy Crappy!

Besides almost experiencing a tornado, Brady is doing so good in his classes!  Not too long ago he got a perfect score on his Organic Chemistry test!  105 percent baby!  I am just so gosh dang proud of him! :)

Brady and I are also doing really well in our church callings.  I am the 2nd counselor in the Primary presidency and Brady is the assistant ward clerk.  Right now things are a little hectic in Primary because our president is in Boise and out 1st counselor is in Utah so last week and this next week I am doing Primary by myself.  I just hope I get through this!

Another thing that has happened to us is that Brady and I now have a niece and Alayna has another cousin!!  My brother Bryce and his wife Britta now have an adorable little girl. :)  Her name is Naomi LaNeal Rhodehouse.  19 inches long and 6 lbs 13 oz. and just perfect!  I really really REALLY can't wait until July when Brady, Alayna, and I fly back to Idaho and we get to see and hold her and give her lots of kisses!! :D

Alayna is now over 8 months old! Holy cow!  Time is just going so fast!  Here are some super cute pictures of her for those that never get to see her...

Little Red :)

A few weeks ago we got a new car!!  It is a Chevy Prism 2002.  It has great gas mileage, which was exactly what we were going for!  We found it on Craig's List for $2,650.  That's great because now we don't even have a car payment!  I am SO happy about our new little car because that means that we now have TWO cars.  I now have a little bit more freedom.  It was pretty good timing too because I was getting a little bored of the exact same running route that I have been taking and now I can drive to a different area and Alayna and I can run a different route. :)  And I can also do the grocery shopping while Brady is at school and I can start going to play group!  Yay!!  Now all I have to do is finish my online drivers ED class, take a driver's test, and pass a vision exam so I can get my Texas license.  Yikes!  Since I turned 21 my Idaho driver's license expired and so now I have to go through the trouble of getting a new one.  :(  But I am SO excited to drive our mini van around!  We named our car "Little Red" and changed the name of our van to "Old Betsy."  (Sorry Brian, since we drive your van now it is no longer called the "Pimpn' Van.")

Meet "Little Red" :)
Last week was the first time that Alayna and I drove to Wal-Mart to get groceries all by ourselves.  And I only got honked at once! :)  I was quite proud of myself actually.  Here is my crazy 1st time going somewhere without my hubby story...  So I quickly learned that it is not as easy to go grocery shopping with an 8 month old by yourself.  Alayna will sit in her little cart but she always wants to lean to the side and I always have to push her back up.  Well when I finally got all my groceries I went to check out.  This nice, and very friendly, black guy behind me helped watch Alayna while I bought the groceries.  After I was done I went back to our van and then it turned out that the black guy's car was really close to the mine.  He started talking to me again and we had a little conversation.  In this conversation I did tell him I had a husband and WAS married to him.  Anyways, I told him I had to get home and he asked me out on a date.  I obviously turned down his offer!  I mean are you serious?!?!  I couldn't believe that he still asked me out with all the obvious signs that I was NOT single!  I mean I was wearing my wedding ring, had a baby, driving a mini van, and I was even wearing a BYU shirt!  I guess I need to be a little less friendly around here?  Hahaha.

Alayna's update

One of our most favorite things to do is make our little girl giggle... :)

One of Alayna's favorite games to play is throw all of her toys onto the floor...

Alayna isn't crawling yet but it is just so funny to watch her. If she wants something that is out of her reach then she will pivot her body so that she can roll to where she wants to be.  Here is her doing the pivot...

Just a couple funny story's about her:  Everyone and I mean like EVERYONE tells us that Alayna looks like a real doll!  Well when we first got to Texas Alayna was about 2 months old.  We went to Wal-Mart one day and this big black guy was watching Brady holding Alayna.  He was probably thinking that Brady was a weirdo until he saw Alayna move.  The guy kind of jumped a little and was like "Man I thought you were carrying around a doll!"  Another time when we fooled someone was at the library when Alayna was probably 5 months old.  Again Brady was carrying her and this lady was watching Brady hold her.  When Alayna moved the lady watching got startled and jumped and walked around the corner (acting kind of embarrassed) but I still heard her tell her son "I thought that was a doll!"  Hahaha!  We have also had people tell us that Alayna is like the ward doll.  Every time we go somewhere, anywhere, we get compliments on how cute she is and usually someone says something like "She is such a doll"!

One thing that we have learned about our little girl from being her parents and also by observing other people's babies is that our little girl is very energetic and hyper all the time!  It is always a wrestling match when we try to change her diaper or put her clothes on.  She is so disrupting at church and is always the center of attention.  Haha.  Just a couple days ago someone commented to Brady and I that Alayna was like a chicken with its head cut off.  I thought that was kind of a funny but accurate comparison of her.  Alayna just wouldn't hold still and was yelling and waving the toy in her hand around and just being her normal crazy self.  Lol.

Last week Alayna got her 6 month shots.  I know she is almost 8 months now so we are a little behind on her shots but she is just fine.  At this checkup she was 28 inches long and 18.5 pounds.  That is in the 90ith percentile for height and 62nd percentile for weight and her head circumference was in the 50th percentile.  She is just growing super well!!  She is just a tall healthy baby and we are so grateful for that! :)
